Religious Liberty Project in Madrid

Dr. Ganoune Diop, Director of United Nations Relations and Associate Director of PARL Department to GC of SDA, was the main guest speaker at the Spanish Union on June 7-9, 2013. Three important meetings took place on Friday and Saturday in the largest churches of Madrid (Eben-Ezer/Emaus, Alenza and Sion Torejon). There were around 1,600 participants at these meetings.

Professor Diop’s visit to Spain represented one of three event locations which EUD Public Affairs & Religious Liberty Director Attorney Liviu Olteanu planned last year for this summer: Rome, Madrid and Bucharest. After the EUD PARL Advisory was hosted in Rome on June 3-6, 2013, Madrid became the second European location of EUD religious liberty presentations. The Religious Liberty Madrid Project was created last year and the presentations were planned for two separate occasions. The second event will take place in the future with the participation of Spanish religious minorities, university scholars and officials of the Spanish Parliament and Government.

Dr. Ganoune Diop's presentations were very much appreciated by Pastor Jesus Calvo, the President of the Spanish Union and Director of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty and by all of the participants. The depth, vision and clarity motivated all of those present as each person could feel the warmth of Dr. Ganoune Diop’s message. Everyone grew in understanding of the importance of Biblical religious freedom, its foundation and the updated model of religious liberty for the present.

It is apparent that people are very important to Dr. Diop, and that personal dignity is fundamental. Without love, true liberty is not possible.

"We hope and pray that due to these meetings in Madrid, that the participants will be more involved in promoting and defending truth and religious liberty for all people as part of the mission of the Adventist Church", said Liviu Olteanu.
